Educate visitors and keep Holocaust history alive

Give back by becoming a docent at The Florida Holocaust Museum. Docents work with students of different age groups (5th grade and up) and help translate the lessons of the Holocaust into today and carry their message to the next generations. You will also have a chance to meet artists and guest speakers at programs designed just for docents. The 2023 Docent Class kicks off Sept. 26. Learn more and sign up here.

Mobile food bank opportunity

Florida Dream Center’s Mobile Food Bank runs six days a week, providing food to Pinellas County’s smaller food banks, assisted living facilities and churches. Current volunteer needs are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. During these times, volunteers help unload food trucks and sort food. On Saturdays, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., volunteers are needed to pack food boxes to go out on Saturday mornings to the Dream Center’s Adopt-a-Block sites. Ovarian Cancer 5K/1M Run/Walk

The Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation (CMOCF) commemorates 20 years and announces its annual One Step Closer to the Cure 5K or 1K race. On Sept. 9, starting and ending at Albert Whitted Park, 480 Bayshore Drive SE, individuals and teams may walk, run or jog with fellow supporters along downtown St. Pete’s spectacular waterfront and help provide hope to local women suffering from ovarian cancer. Memorialize your pet and give back

Support shelter pets and remember a furry friend at Pet Pal Animal Shelter in St. Pete. Your gift of $100 provides you with a 6′ x 6′ tile. Your gift of $300 provides you with a 12 x 12 tile. Gifts are recognized with personalized wall tiles, featuring your loved one’s photo and inscription. Tiles are permanently displayed at the Pet Pal shelter to show our appreciation for your support and dedication to the animals. Learn more at petpalanimalshelter.com/tribute.

Support students studying marine science

The Walter C. Jaap Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of a marine ecologist and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission retiree who dedicated his career to understanding and preserving coral reefs. The scholarship supports students studying science at Florida universities. The endowed scholarship is administered by the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay.
